A select group of soccer fans have enjoyed watching a World Cup match on an ultra high-definition television at a public viewing event in Tokyo. The set uses 8K Super Hi-Vision technologies being developed mainly by NHK. It was used to broadcast live a game between Japan and Cote d'Ivoire on Sunday. About 150 people attended the event.
The television features clearer images and more realistic sound. Its display boasts resolution about 16 times higher that of existing high-definition models. A 330-inch screen was installed at the site, along with about 20 speakers surrounding the audience. One man said he was excited to see the players sweat and their muscles stretch clearly on the screen. Another man said the sound was wonderful and he felt like he was at the stadium in Brazil.
